Theater Much Ado About Nothing

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The theater MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING was founded in Munich at the end of 1985 as an independent theater group .

history

The founders and shareholders of the theater, Margrit Carls and Andreas Seyferth , had set themselves the goal of building a theater in the then culturally fallow west of the city after working for several years at city and state theaters . The decision to work “freely” is, according to his own statement, the claim to combine the quality standards acquired at the established theater with “an independent, idiosyncratic, self-creative and collaborative production method”. The first premiere was Shakespeare's comedy Much Ado About Nothing in May 1986. Today, the theater is an integral part of the Pasinger Fabrik cultural center , and it played a decisive role in its creation and establishment.

The actors Margit Carls and Andreas Seyferth still form the core of the theater today . Seyferth also directs , whereas Carls is responsible for dramaturgy and working with texts. Since 1991 she has worked with the Munich director Eos Schopohl again and again . The ensemble is piece-related; but emphasis is placed on continuity.

program

Focus of the game board are classics in their own translations and versions; epic material is also repeatedly dramatized. A special feature are always new room designs (instead of the usual peep show stage ).

The self-portrayal also states that one has “a soft spot for stories that convey existential human experience in a fantastic, absurd, weird way”. The theater invokes Shakespeare as a "house author" and teacher and, in its tradition, sees theater as a setting for "world and self-invention".

reception

The theater is funded from the first production by the cultural department of the state capital Munich . In 1996 and 1997 it was named one of the ten best off-theaters from the German-speaking region with the productions Das Wintermärchen (Shakespeare) and Alice D. im Spiegelland (an adaptation by Lewis Carroll ) at the Impulse Theater Festival in North Rhine-Westphalia invited.

In the justification of the Munich theater jury for the funding in 1995, it was stated that the theater worked “with great, intellectually sound curiosity”. The pieces would be staged close to the present and each in their own improvised style.
