Latomus (magazine)

Latomus. Revue d'études latines is a Belgian classical scholarly journal that publishes studies and essays in the broader subject of Roman history and archeology as well as Latin studies , the latter also including Middle Latin and Neo-Latin .

The magazine was prepared by the Société d'Études Latines de Bruxelles - Latomus , founded on July 11, 1936, and appeared for the first time in 1937, but was temporarily discontinued during the Second World War. The editors were Marc-Antoine Kugener , Léon Herrmann and Marcel Renard . The name of the magazine is reminiscent of the humanist Bartholomaeus Latomus (1485–1570).

So far (as of 2012) 70 volumes of the journal have been published, which is published in four fascicles a year in Brussels and publishes original articles as well as reviews and communications in all major European languages ​​(French, English, German, Italian, Spanish and occasionally Latin). A series of publications entitled Collection Latomus has been published since 1939 , in which 339 (as of 2012) monographs and anthologies have been published.

The magazine has its administrative headquarters at the Université Libre de Bruxelles . Carl Deroux was the publisher and director from 1990 to 2012 , and David Engels has held this position since February 2012 .
