Lattice C (after its maker, Lattice, Incorporated ) was the first C compiler for MS-DOS on the IBM personal computer in 1982 . The compiler was ported to many other platforms, such as mainframe computers ( MVS ), minicomputers ( VMS ), workstations ( UNIX ), OS / 2 , the Commodore Amiga , the Atari ST and the Sinclair QL .

The compiler was later sold by Microsoft as Microsoft C in a different packaging. In 1987 Lattice was bought by the SAS Institute . After that, the support for other platforms gradually disappeared until the compiler development entirely on IBM - mainframes were aligned. The product is still available in versions that will run on other platforms, but these are cross-compilers that only produce mainframe code.

Part of the early commercial software for the IBM PC in the year 1982 , including Perfect Writer , PerfectCalc , Perfect Speller and PerfectFiler (whose suite was bundled with Seequa Chameleon and Columbia Data Products ), was of CP / M where (in BDS C written war) ported to MS-DOS using Lattice C.
