Laura Wiesböck

Laura Wiesböck (* 1987 in Vienna ) is an Austrian sociologist and publicist.

Life

Wiesböck studied sociology at the University of Vienna with study visits to the Université Catholique de Louvain La Neuve , the CUNY Graduate Center and the University of Oxford as well as a teaching stay at the University of Ghana . In her research, the sociologist deals with the forms, causes and effects of social inequality, particularly with regard to work, poverty and gender. In her teaching activities she is also dedicated to topics such as language and power, the sociology of love and coolness as a cultural practice. Her dissertation, Facets of Cross-Border Commuting in the Central European Region and the (Re) Production of Inequalities , was awarded the Theodor Körner Prize and the Bank Austria Research Prize. In addition to scientific articles, Wiesböck regularly publishes in daily media such as Die Zeit, Der Standard or the press and gives specialist lectures for public institutions e.g. E.g. for the Federal Chancellery of Austria via social media platforms and the cultural production of femininity, for the City of Vienna MA40 on the subject of child poverty or in the Austrian Parliament on women's poverty or the women's quota. In addition, she is committed to combating violence by men against women. a. Member of the parliamentary dialogue "Together against violence against women". In September 2018 her non-fiction book “In better society. The self-righteous view of others ”at Kremayr & Scheriau and has been widely received in Germany and Austria. The radio station Ö1 dedicated an episode of the series “ thoughts” to her . The book was published as a translation in South Korea in July 2020.
