Laureano Ruiz Quevedo (born October 21, 1937 in Villafufre , Cantabria ) is a former Spanish football player and coach.
Career
Ruiz joined Racing Santander at the age of 18 and played there until 1959. At Santander, he was both a player and a coach of the youth team. At 24 he went to Gimnástica de Torrelavega , but continued to coach the Santander youth team. He ended his playing career at the age of 28 in order to be able to concentrate even more on his coaching position.
In 1967 he became the first team coach for Racing Santander. Santander rose this season (1967/68) from the Tercera División .
In the early 1970s he was the coach of the youth team in Barcelona, with whom he won five championships in a row in those years. In the 1975/76 season he took over Barcelona as third place in the table six game days before the end of the season and was able to lead Barça to the runner-up. After the end of the season, he made way for Rinus Michels . From 1976 to 1978, Ruiz coaches from FC Barcelona B .
For the 1978/79 season he was appointed coach of Celta Vigo . However, Ruiz could not lead Celta Vigo to relegation this season and left the future second division side in the direction of Racing Santander . Like Vigo, Santander had just been relegated from the first division, but even in the second division Santander had its problems and at the end of the 1979/80 season had only one point more than the best relegated. Ruiz was fired mid-season.
In total he was a coach for more than 50 years; the longest of them, 22 years, with Racing Santander .
