On February 15, 1599, the expedition reached the coast of Principe Island . The following day there was an argument with Portuguese people, with Van Heemskerck being held captive for one day. On March 2, they left Sao Tome, which had been in Dutch possession during the two-day stay. On March 18, the two ships separated and the one under Laurens Bicker, called De Silveren Werelt , sailed to Buenos Aires . On the Rio de la Plata they got the approval of the Spanish governor to trade in goods. At the Allerheiligenbaai the two ships were captured by the Portuguese and set on fire on January 1st, 1600. The remaining Dutch garrison was taken to Lisbon. On the way there they were attacked and Laurens Bicker was lucky to find freedom.

In August of the same year Laurens Bicker bought a brewery on the Grimburgwal ; a plot of land on the Singel in November .

On January 28, 1601, Gerard le Roy and Laurens Bicker led the twelfth expedition to India , which had been equipped by the Vereenigde Zeeuwse Compagnie , one of the preliminary companies of the Dutch East India Company . On August 23, they landed at Aceh in Indonesia, where Frederick de Houtman had been imprisoned by the Sultan. After an unsuccessful liberation by Admiral Paulus van Caerden , Bicker was able to free de Houtman.
