Laurentius Chapel (Trittenheim)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Laurentius Chapel in Trittenheim an der Mosel is a chapel first mentioned in a document in 1569 , which is dedicated to St. Laurentius next to the parish church of St. Clemens on the Laurentiusberg ( opposite the village of Leiwen ) . A legend grew up around them in the Middle Ages. It has not been conclusively clarified whether the Laurentius Chapel was Trittenheim's first parish church .

Today the Laurentiuskapelle is a memorial chapel for the citizens of Trittenheim who fell in World War I 1914–1918 and Second World War 1939–1945. The names of those killed and missing are recorded on four boards.

The Förderverein Laurentiuskapelle Trittenheim e. V. has been looking after the building since it was founded, most recently between 1997 and 1999 in the form of a complete renovation.
