history

The district cemetery in Hagsfeld was first mentioned in a document in 1499 as part of a parish that was owned by the Gottesaue monastery .

At the behest of the nephews of Margrave Karl Wilhelm , Karl Wilhelm Eugen von Baden-Durlach and Karl August von Baden-Durlach , the cemetery was fenced in with a cemetery wall in the 18th century. In 1829 the cemetery area was expanded. The archway was moved and given an inscription.

The biblical inscription from the Revelation of John is written in Latin above the entrance portal of the cemetery . This is:

"Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on."

- ( Rev 14:13  LUT )

In 1989 a newly built funeral hall was inaugurated. The mourning hall received glass paintings by the sculptors Barbara Jäger and Omi Riesterer .

Sankt Laurentiuskirche

In the cemetery stands the Evangelical Church of St. Lawrence of the parish of the same name, which is consecrated to St. Lawrence of Rome .
