Laurids Pedersen Thura (born October 3, 1598 in Skælskør , † January 7, 1655 in Nykøbing Falster ) was a Danish orientalist, educator and pastor.

The son of surgeon Peder Lauridsen Holst was enrolled at the University of Copenhagen in 1620. From 1621 to 1623 he studied classical and oriental languages in Rostock and Wittenberg. He continued his studies in Copenhagen and graduated in 1625 with a master's degree. He became rector in Næstved, in 1626 vice rector of the Vor Frue skole in Copenhagen and in 1628 rector of Herlufsholm . From 1630 he was pastor of Nykøbing Falster and provost of Falster .

In his capacity as provost Pedersen left detailed and conscientious records in his extensive brevbog , which is an interesting source for research on church and contemporary history. As Orientalist he wrote a translation of the Song of Songs , including paraphrases, commentaries and an appendix four-part chorale ( Canticum canticorum , Copenhagen 1640).

Pedersen latinized his name as Laurentius Petraeus , to which he added the Aramaic word Thura for "rock" (Peter).
