The Lavochkin La-190 ( russian Лавочкин Ла-190 ) was a Soviet supersonic - interceptor . It was created in the early 1950s as a parallel design to the MiG-19 . It only existed as a prototype, instead its competing model went into series production.

development

After the La-176 was the first Soviet aircraft to reach supersonic speed, Semyon Lavochkin developed the model into the La-190 from the beginning of 1949. The hull was lengthened by about five meters. The wings were given a leading edge sweep from 45 ° to 55 °, but in contrast to the La-176 had no boundary layer fences . The tail unit was designed in a delta shape, similar to that of the Jak-1000 built a short time later . The landing gear was designed in tandem, that is, on the fuselage there was the front wheel and a main wheel with double tires and a support wheel on each of the wing ends. Other differences to the predecessor were the middle- wing arrangement of the wings on the fuselage and the use of the much more powerful Ljulka AL-5 engine .

From February 1951 the flight tests took place. Stability problems in the high speed range and poorer performance compared to the MiG-19 resulted in the program being discontinued and Lavochkin turned to his last fighter project, the heavy interceptor La-250 .
