The Lawrence River is formed by the outflow of the Lawrence Glacier , which moves south of the 2,628 m high North Peak and west of the 2,479 m high Lawrence Peak to the west. From its formation, the river initially runs in a west-south-west direction and then turns in a south-south-west direction after around 7 km. On its way the river is accompanied on the north and west by the mountain range of the Jollie Range and on its southeast and east side by the Arrowsmith Range and then by the Potts Range . After its exit into the valley of the Clyde River , the river takes a southern course for 1.3 km and after a total of 21 km flows into the Clyde River .
