The Laws Point is a headland on the south coast of South Georgia in the South Atlantic . It is located north of Cape Demidow on the south bank of the entrance to Wilson Harbor and is the site of a large breeding colony of the giant petrel . Immediately to the west is Saddle Island .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 2009. It is named after the British biologist Richard Maitland Laws (1926-2014) from the University of Cambridge , who worked for the British Antarctic Survey from 1947 to 1987 in various capacities .
