Le bateau sur l'herbe is a 1971 French fiction film directed by Gérard Brach , starring Claude Jade , Jean-Pierre Cassel and John McEnery .
action
Friends Olivier (John McEnery) and David (Jean-Pierre Cassel) build a ship on the meadow of Olivier's country estate with which they want to travel to Easter Island . When poor David goes to his wealthy friend's Paris apartment to fetch the figurehead , he meets Eleanor. The girl thinks he's well off. David leaves her in the apartment where Olivier meets her the next morning. She follows him to the country estate, where it turns out that Olivier, the friend he praised, is the wealthy one. He chases away a young lover of his exalted mother (Valentina Cortese) who is visiting and who is now leaving. He asks Elonor to stay. Eleanor blends in with the idyll, but she is selfish and jealous of the deep and deep love between friends. When Olivier tells David that there are chicks ("Gonzesses") like Eleonor everywhere, she smears "La Gonzesse est partie" on the sheet and goes with her laundry bag. Olivier catches up with the car in which she drives away by hitchhiking and is able to persuade Eleanor to stay again. She scratched her shoulder while getting out of the picking up car. That Olivier would absolutely not sleep with her is another humiliation for Eleanor. She later claims to Davis that Olivier left her the scratches. When she explains it as a joke, a bad one, but a joke, David no longer believes her. The christening of the ship in the name of Eleonor turns into a drama that ends with Olivier chasing David away. Olivier brings Eleanor's laundry bag to David and Olivier, who are about to leave by bus. Then he drives his car into the ship and jumps out of the car at full speed, the car and the ship catch fire. Just as the bus arrives, with which Eleanor and David are about to continue, David hears the horn of Olivier's car. He runs to the ship and thinks Olivier is in the burning car. Olivier, who has watched the fire from the bushes, is happy that David has returned to him and calls David. He's standing next to the car he wanted to save Olivier from and smiles. Then the car explodes. Olivier kneels crying in front of the flames of the burning ship in which his friend died.
