Seyna passed her baccalaureate with top marks and wants to study politics. Her parents come from Cameroon , Seyna was born in France. Her father, who works as a warehouse clerk in the flower wholesale business, and the mother are proud of their daughter. To celebrate the day, they give her a voucher for a beauty salon. The good mood is quickly dampened when Seyna announces that she wants to apply for her French identity card. This is possible after passing the Bac and shortly before the age of majority, whereby she could choose between French and Cameroonian citizenship. Your father is outraged; Seyna needs his residence permit for the application, which she does not receive.

After a party at a school friend's house, Seyna and her father quarrel the next day. She secretly steals his residence permit, leaves the apartment against the will of the father and goes to the passport office. All the papers are correct, but the great Afro Seynas means that the specified passport photo cannot be created. Seyna tries in vain to have the photograph taken by the photographer. Her hairstyle always means that the photo cannot be created in accordance with standards. Seyna finally goes to a hairdresser. She has her bald head shaved with the voucher that she received from her parents. She doesn't return home until late in the evening. Her father looks at her for a long time and finally takes her in his arms.

production

Le bleu blanc rouge de mes cheveux was the directorial debut of Josza Anjembe, who had previously made two documentaries. Like Seyna in the film, Anjembe was born in France to a Cameroonian father. In the film, she processed a personal experience, so in 2010, when taking photos for a passport, she was informed that the portrait was outside the permitted frame due to her hairstyle.

Work on the film began in 2014; Anjembe wrote the first draft scenario within two days; the script was finally ready after around a month in August 2014. Anjembe became aware of the leading actress Grace Seri, who had previously gained a little acting experience, at the Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique in Paris . Seri graduated from the Conservatoire in 2015; in Le bleu blanc rouge de mes cheveux she took on her first leading role. The film was shot within seven days in Rennes in September 2015 ; the budget was around 100,000 euros.

Le bleu blanc rouge de mes cheveux ran for the first time in June 2016 at the Palm Springs International ShortFest and was subsequently shown at other film festivals, including in October 2016 at the Molodist International Film Festival and in February 2017 at the Festival du Court -Métrage de Clermont-Ferrand and in August 2017 at the Rhode Island International Film Festival.
