Leafless group

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Leafless group is a group of Attic vase painters who worked in the black-figure style in the early 5th century BC. Were active.

The group continues the ornamentation scheme of the eye cups . It got its emergency name after the leafless branches that were shown in many of the backgrounds of the pictures. One-figure pictures or gorgons were often shown on the interior pictures . Dolphins, birds and leaves were painted under the handles. Although eye cups were decorated, the painters in the group mostly did without these eyes. Dionysian images are often shown. In terms of quality, these pictures are mostly poor, although at the same time there are even worse examples of such forms, e.g. from the Haimon group . In addition to bowls, kyathoi , skyphoi and mastoid bowls were also decorated in the same way. The skyphoi were decorated in the tradition of the white heron workshop and its main representative, the Theseus painter . However, only in poor quality.
