Ernst Lebrecht Henneberg (born September 27, 1850 in Wolfenbüttel , † April 29, 1933 near Munich ) was a German applied mathematician and professor of mechanics.

Life

Ernst Lebrecht Henneberg was born in 1850 as the son of Heinrich Henneberg and his wife Sophie Rimpau. He studied mathematics in Zurich , Heidelberg and Berlin from 1870 to 1876 and received his doctorate in 1875 under Hermann Amandus Schwarz in Zurich ( on such minimal surfaces which have a prescribed flat curve to the geodetic line ). After completing his habilitation in Zurich in 1876, from 1878 he was an associate professor for performing and synthetic geometry and graphic statics at the TH Darmstadt . In 1879 he became a full professor of mechanics at the TH Darmstadt.

In 1888 Henneberg was elected a member of the Leopoldina . In 1890, Henneberg was one of the founding members of the German Mathematicians Association .

In 1903 he wrote the article on graphic statics in the Encyclopedia of Mathematical Sciences . The Henneberg bar exchange method and the Henneberg minimal area found by him in his dissertation are named after him.

Henneberg was dean of the electrical engineering school from 1887 to 1890. 1890–91 he was dean of the mathematics and science school. 1902–05 and 1911–14 he was dean of the general department. 1891–93 he was rector of the TH Darmstadt.

Henneberg retired on September 30, 1920.
