Lee R. Raymond (born August 13, 1939 in Watertown , South Dakota ) is an American business manager . He was Chairman ( CEO ) of ExxonMobil Corporation from 1999 to 2005 .

Career

Raymond studied industrial chemistry at the University of Wisconsin – Madison and the University of Minnesota . After completing his studies, he joined Exxon Corp.'s research department in 1963 as an engineer . a. In 1983 he became president of the subsidiary Esso , and in 1993 he became chief executive officer of the entire group. During his tenure , Exxon Corporation merged with Mobil on November 30, 1999 . The largest industrial company in the world in terms of market capitalization emerged from this merger . In 2005, Raymond moved from the board of directors to the board of directors for a severance pay of $ 351 million. He was succeeded by Rex Tillerson .

In 2006, Raymond was appointed by US President George W. Bush to head a commission on the future of renewable energies in the United States.
