Lee Rozie

Lee "Mixashawn" Rozie (* 1952 ) is an American jazz musician ( saxophones , also flutes, percussion).

Rozie's first recordings were made in Connecticut in 1975 with Donald Alexander Strachan and The Freedom Ensemble. Around 1980 he formed the Afro Algonquin trio with his brother Rick Rozie and Rashied Ali , with whom he also made guest appearances in Germany. In the following years he played a. a. with Saheb Sarbib and His Multinational Big Band and with Ronald Shannon Jacksons Decoding Society . In 1982 he was a guest at the Vokal Summit as part of the SWF New Jazz Meeting as accompanist for Lauren Newton , Urszula Dudziak , Jeanne Lee , Jay Clayton and Bobby McFerrin (album Sorrow Is Not Forever - Love Is ). In the field of jazz he was involved in 12 recording sessions between 1975 and 2001. In later years he worked a. a. with Kali Z. Fasteau ; In 2016 he performed in New York with William Parker's Extended Breathe Ensemble .

Lee Rozie is Mohegan ; his name "Mixashawn" means "the messenger on the wind".
