Rick Rozie

Edward "Rick" Rozie (* around 1944) is an American double bass player who has emerged in both jazz and classical music.

Live and act

Rozie, who grew up in East Hartford , began playing the piano at the age of five before switching to drums. In high school he became a double bass player and played in the school orchestra. At the Hartt School he received lessons from Bertram Turetzky , William Rhein and Orin O'Brien.

He has played in the Kansas City Philharmonic since 1968 . Between 1977 and 1983 Rozie taught double bass at the Hartford Conservatory and the University of Connecticut . Then he worked as an adjunct professor at the Hartt School and taught jazz bass.

With his brother Lee Rozie and Rashied Ali he formed the trio Afro Algonquin , which also made guest appearances in Germany. In the following years he played a. a. in the quartet of James Newton and Anthony Davis . In 1982 he was a guest at the Vokal Summit as part of the SWF New Jazz Meeting as accompanist for Lauren Newton , Urszula Dudziak , Jeanne Lee , Jay Clayton and Bobby McFerrin (album Sorrow Is Not Forever - Love Is ). In the field of jazz, he was involved in 14 recording sessions between 1978 and 1995. He can also be heard on albums by Allan Jaffe , the World Bass Violin Ensemble , Jay Hoggard , Chico Freeman and Andrea Bocelli, among others . For more than 30 years he has been a member of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra , where he is the principal of the bassists.
