Lefaga
Lefaga is a group of villages on the southwest coast of Upolu in Samoa . The area was made famous by the American film Return to Paradise (1953) starring Gary Cooper . Important scenes were filmed in Matautu . The 50th anniversary of the film was celebrated in Lefaga in November 2003.
The association includes seven settlements, so-called pito nuʻu :
- Safa'atoa
- Matafa'a
- Faleaseela
- Tafagamanu
- Savaia
- Gagaifo o le Vao
- Matautu (There are several villages in Samoa called 'Matautu'.)
Lefaga was one of the regions that suffered numerous deaths and major damage in the 2009 Samoan earthquake and subsequent tsunami .
