Legacy of Kain - Soul Reaver is the year 1999 published by Crystal Dynamics developed and Eidos Interactive marketed Action Adventure for PlayStation , Dreamcast and Windows .
Soul Reaver is the second part of the five-part " Legacy of Kain " series, which is also closely linked to the content of the "Blood Omen" series.

Raziel, one of the six governors of the vampire prince Cain, reached a new stage of development before his master and was the first vampire to get bat-like wings. Cain regards this as presumptuous, since he usually has the privilege of being the first to undergo a metamorphosis and thus to increase his abilities. In a fit of jealousy, Cain tears out Raziel's wingbones and throws him into the vortex of souls, in which Raziel is said to be in agony for all time, because water is fatal for Nosgoth's vampires. But Raziel is saved by the elder, an ancient deity who lives in the abyss, and given new abilities. Raziel has now become a kind of angel of death ; instead of blood he thirsts for the souls of his victims. Driven by his thirst for retribution and the dark plans of the old god, he embarks on a campaign of revenge.
Gameplay
In contrast to the predecessor Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain , which was shown in the isometric perspective , in Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver , as in all subsequent games in the series, the third-person perspective was used.
After the intro, the player takes control of Raziel. This is done from the persecutor's perspective . Raziel can walk, run, crawl, jump, hold on to edges and pull up and hover for a short time. It is not able to fly up on its own, because its wings have been damaged too much by Cain. Through his resurrection, Raziel also acquired the ability to move from the “material plane”, the world in which all living beings exist, to the “spectral plane”, the world of spirits. The properties of the latter level are expressed in the fact that the beings vegetating here are unable to influence the material world, time stands still and substances such as water lose all properties and consistency. It is primarily intended to find new ways, since the material and spectral levels do not have a great deal of intersection, although they are one and the same location. If Raziel's spirits fall below a certain value in the material plane, he stays in the same place, but changes to the spectral plane. From this he can return to the material plane with the help of special portals placed in certain places. In the course of the game, Raziel can increase his skills by killing the remaining governors of Cain (Raziel's vampire brothers at the time) and thus transferring their skills to Raziel (for example, going through bars in the spectral world or swimming through water in the earthly world). In addition, in the first fight against Cain he receives the Soul Reaver, a soul-devouring sword that connects with Raziel on the spectral level and thus becomes part of Raziel. Raziel can use the Soul Reaver in the course of the game in the material world and expand its capabilities.
Can run under modern operating systems
The game can no longer run easily under Windows versions from 2000 (including problems with the installation or with the video support), but there were several unofficial patches for these problems . A version for current Windows systems is offered on GOG.com . With the help of Wine , it can be played on Linux and other Unix-like operating systems.
