Legión 1908
Legión 1908 is the name of the official and largest fan club of the Mexican football club CD Guadalajara . The original fan club was founded in Guadalajara in 1998 , but there are now offshoots of the Legion 1908 in various cities in Mexico and the USA .
The name Legión was chosen to create a fan movement that both traditional Mexican football fans known as Porras and the Barras inspired by the South American fan movement could identify with. The number 1908 marks the year in which the Club Deportivo Guadalajara , founded in 1906 as Club Unión , received its current name.
The self-image of the Legión 1908 can be read from its motto “Pasión sin violencia” and characterizes a passion for one's own club that gets by without violence.
History of the Legión 1908
According to the report of the Los Angeles-based branch of the Legión 1908, the nucleus of the fans united under this name emerged in 1998 in the context of a football game between Chivas Guadalajara and CF Pachuca . Originally they called themselves Barra Rojiblanco (roughly Red and White Pack), but soon changed the name to Barra 1908 , before the current name was chosen in 1999 in order to counteract the inhibition of the fans who call themselves Porras, which had obviously been opposed to joining remove.
