Norbert Schneider (born October 24, 1979 in Vienna ) is an Austrian singer , songwriter , music producer and guitarist who works in the genres of pop , Austropop , blues , reggae , R&B , funk and jazz . In 2010 he won the Ö3 Soundcheck , in 2014, 2016 and 2019 the AMADEUS Austrian Music Award.
Life
Schneider, born in Vienna, grew up in Prottes in the Weinviertel. He received violin lessons at the age of seven. Since he was 15, he plays guitar, he is self-taught taught. As a teenager, he accompanied Big Jay McNeely , Louisiana Red , Aaron Burton, and Sister Shirley Sidnor. He was also on stage with Mick Taylor , Bernard Allison , Red Holloway , Travis Haddix, Rusty Zinn, Paul Orta, Dave Specter and Alex Schultz. He has supported BB King, Lou Reed, Simply Red, Pink, One Republic and Gov't Mule.
From 1998 to 2010 he was active in the following formations: Squared, Vienna City Blues Band, Voodoo Surfers, R&B Caravan, The Blue Flagships, Lego Steiner and Andreas Sobczyk Quartet.
Schneider stood for 25 - Das Magazin as an extra in front of the camera. He can also be seen as an extra in the Harald Safe Seat production Courageous in the new times ( In the realm of phylloxera ).
In 2009 he won the first Vienna Blues Award, as well as the Concerto Poll Prize in the category “Best Artist Blues & Roots” and second place for the best album in the category “Blues & Roots” for his album Fresh Cuts .
In 2010 Schneider won the Ö3 Soundcheck. With the single Take It Easy he was able to achieve great success and made it to second place on the Austrian charts. In October 2010 he released his album Tailormade .
In 2011 he received the Austrian Newcomer Award.
Norbert Schneider was one of the 10 participants in Austria's national qualification for the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 . He performed with the song Medicate My Blues Away , which was released on the album of the same name in January 2012.
In March 2012, he took second place at the European Blues Challenge in Berlin.
On July 12, 2013, the first single Herrgott schau obe auf mi from the album Schau ma mal , which was released in September 2013, was released. This was the first time Schneider appeared as a Viennese dialect chansonnier.
In May 2014 he received an Amadeus Award in the Jazz / World Blues category, in April 2016 he won his 2nd Amadeus Award in the Jazz / World / Blues category on his 2nd nomination .
In October 2016 his album Neuaufnahme was released - a homage to Georg Danzer with some unreleased songs by the pioneer of Austropop.
From March 2017 to April 2017 Schneider was a celebrity candidate in the ORF dance show Dancing Stars .
In April 2019 he was awarded the Amadeus Austrian Music Award 2019 in the Jazz / World / Blues category.
