Geography and geology

The hamlet of Lehesten is located directly next to the federal motorway 9 and about 500 m south of the Göritz district of the city of Hirschberg (Saale) in a hilly terrain of the south-east Thuringian slate mountains. There is a forest between Göritz and the hamlet and in the direction of Sparnberg . The settlements were always in the area of influence of the disruptive border measures after the Second World War until the reunification of the two German states.

history

Lehesten northwest of Hirschberg is said to have been mentioned for the first time in 1576. The hamlet belongs to Göritz and has been incorporated with Göritz in Hirschberg (Saale). The checkpoint at the border crossing of Autobahn 9 into Germany caused problems for the citizens at the time , because it was set up in the immediate vicinity of the hamlet. After the fall of the Wall, this former checkpoint has become a rest stop for drivers and travelers. Citizens living nearby can find work and shopping there.
