Lehnhofsiedlung

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lehnhofsiedlung is a group of residential houses in Bremen - Burglesum in the St. Magnus district , Am Lehnhof 1–13.

Design and execution

From 1950 to 1951 the Lehnhofsiedlung was built to the west of today's Friedehorstpark according to plans by the architect Eberhard Gildemeister (1897–1978). The individual houses and villas correspond to the country house style of the 1920 / 30s, as a successor to the reform architecture from the beginning of the 20th century. The single-storey residential buildings with thatched hipped roofs are reserved with dormers or skylights. White brick masonry, mighty chimneys and delicate window bars also characterize the Lehnhofsiedlung.

Gildemeister designed a number of buildings in Bremen such as the Haus des Reichs , Sparkasse am Markt , the new Rembertikirche or the St. Magni Church in St. Magnus, almost all of which are now listed .

Monument protection

In 1973 the Lehnhofsiedlung was placed under monument protection.

The name Lehnhof

The street Am Lehnhof was named in memory of an old feudal estate . The Lehnhof was set up in 1857 by the Consul General and Senator Dr. Theodor Lürman as a country estate and surrounded it with a spacious park in the landscape style, part of which has been preserved in today's Friedehorstpark . The original Swiss-style country house was demolished in 1904, as was the neo-baroque successor building in the 1930s.
