Leica Geosystems AG is a subsidiary of the Swedish group Hexagon in Switzerland . It manufactures precision measuring instruments for building surveying , geodesy , aerial photography and photogrammetry . The company's headquarters are in Heerbrugg in the canton of St. Gallen , near the border with Austria.

history

The company is the technical successor of Wild Heerbrugg , which was founded in 1921 and which merged with Leitz Wetzlar and the geodetic division of Kern & Co. AG to form Wild Leitz AG in 1987/88 .

From 1990 the group operated with other technical production divisions under the world-famous brand name of the camera manufacturer Leica , but was again separated into smaller units from 1996 to 1998.

Leica Geosystems has been part of the Swedish Hexagon Group since 2005, but continues to sell its products under its own name. Hexagon has a development and production site in Wetzlar , Germany, which goes back to the Leitz company.

Fields of activity

The company's purpose is to “develop, manufacture and sell optical, mechanical, electronic and electro-optical devices, instruments and systems including software applications and the corresponding repair service; technical and administrative advisory services as well as related services, in particular for the benefit of companies affiliated with the Leica Geosystems Group ”. Furthermore, “mandates for the management of companies, for the implementation of planning and project planning activities” are taken on.
