history
The morgue ( Tahara house ) was donated by Carl Benscher from Wiesbaden , who had married the daughter Betty from the Jewish Wallach family in Alsfeld, and built in 1910 according to the plans of the architect Römhild. The morgue was used by Jews and Christians jointly, with different entrances in separate departments. An agreement was concluded between the "Israelite religious community and the city of Alsfeld regarding the use of the mortuary". Among other things, it was agreed: “1. The cemetery hall as well as the fencing wall of the same may not bear any badge of any denomination either now or for all distant times. Images of any religious character may not be attached either inside or outside. However, the individual religious communities have the right to use and display religious badges and cult implements in the rooms available to them for storing the corpses while the corpses are being stored.
