Life

Hans Veit III. zu Toerring- Jettenbach was the son of Count Clemens Maria zu Toerring-Jettenbach and his wife Franziska, geb. Countess von Paumgarten (born September 29, 1834 - † December 7, 1894 in Munich). He married Duchess Sophie Adelheid in Bavaria on July 26, 1898 in Munich . Their children were Carl Theodor , Marie José Antonia Franziska Elisabeth Gabriele Gisela (born June 16, 1902 in Seefeld; † June 18, 1988 in Inning am Ammersee ) and Hans Heribert Wilhelm Veit Adolf (born December 25, 1903 in Winhöring ; † 16. March 1977 in Murnau ).

Hans Veit III. zu Toerring-Jettenbach refused an offer of prince regent Luitpold of Bavaria elevation to the prince status. He was the spokesman for the liberal opposition in the Chamber of Imperial Councils and had a reputation for being a Democrat. He represented a mature social policy , such as a program against the housing shortage in Munich, demand for collective agreements in agriculture and forestry . As an employer , he introduced exemplary unemployment insurance for his employees, for which he was nicknamed the Red Count .

In the spring of 1918 Toerring-Jettenbach got in touch with the Belgian government through the Belgian ambassador in Bern, Fernand Peltzer. In a letter dated August 23, 1918, State Secretary Paul von Hintze (AA) informed him that negotiations with the Belgian government were insubstantial.

In the Weimar Republic , the continuation of existing nobility titles was permitted as part of the name. In September 1921, after Gustav von Kahr's resignation, the Bavarian People's Party offered him the position of Bavarian Prime Minister , which he turned down. In 1897 he had Gabriel von Seidl redesign the orangery with arcades in Seefeld Castle . After 1916 he had the valley of the Aubach meliorated . Between Widdersberger Weiher and Pilsensee he had 16 fish ponds built, six of which are still used for fishing today.
