Robert Leigh Turner (* 1958 ) is a British diplomat . He has been the British Ambassador to Austria since 2016, and from 2008 to 2012 he was the British Ambassador to Ukraine .

Life

Leigh Turner grew up in Nigeria , Exeter , Lesotho and Swaziland . After the Grammar School in Manchester , he attended Downing College at the University of Cambridge from 1976 to 1979 .

He then worked in the Department for Transport and the Department of the Environment , from 1983 he worked for the Foreign Office in Vienna (1984 to 1987), Moscow (1992 to 1995) and Berlin (1998 to 2002), among others . From 2006 he was Director of Overseas Territories in London , and in 2008 he became Ambassador of the British Embassy in Ukraine. From 2012 he was the British Consul General in Istanbul .

On August 29, 2016, he succeeded Susan le Jeune d'Allegeershecque as Ambassador to the British Embassy in Vienna and as Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom to the United Nations in Vienna.

Leigh Turner is the father of two children.
