The house at Leipziger Straße 55 is a listed residential building in Magdeburg in Saxony-Anhalt .

location

It is located on the east side of Leipziger Strasse in the Magdeburg district of Leipziger Strasse . To the north is a green space bordered by Erich-Weinert-Strasse, which opens onto Leipziger Strasse, and Helmholtzstrasse, which runs to the east.

History and architecture

The two-storey half - timbered house was built in 1880 by the carpenter Alb. Jul. Hitzeroth erected for himself. It is one of the so-called rayon houses , which were built in accordance with special building regulations in advance of the Magdeburg Fortress and had to be built in such a way that they could be billed quickly in the event of war.

The street-side facade of the seven-axis building has a two-axis risalit . The flat risalit is crowned by a boarded gable . There is scrolling work on the roof board . Similar gables are also found on the back of the house and on the north facade. The rectangular windows on the ground floor each have small wooden gables. The upper floor projects a little over the ground floor. On the side facing away from the street there is a small covered veranda with a winter garden-like superstructure. The building is covered by a hipped roof .

In the local register of monuments , the house is listed as a monument under registration number 094 82743 .

It is considered an urban and architecturally significant rayon house and is located in an area in which several houses of this type have been preserved. A little further south is the Rayonhaus Leipziger Straße 53 .
