The achievement badge of the pre-military training was a sports badge of the Free German Youth (FDJ) of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was donated in 1960 in three stages. Level I was the highest here. It was awarded for achieving or passing the requirements in the pre-military area three times (including endurance sports, weight training, shooting training) in the context of pre-military (sports) events. These events were organized and carried out by the Society for Sport and Technology (GST) and the German Gymnastics and Sports Association (DTSB).

There was a new badge under the law on the pre-military training of apprentices and students in the late 1970s and early 1980s. It was based on the GDR's sports badge. They came in gold, silver, and bronze, as well as large and small.

Appearance and wearing style

The badge is golden, oval and shows within a split laurel (right) and oak leaf wreath (left) a portrait of two NVA soldiers in front of a waving FDJ and GDR flag. At the lower edge there is a waving black, red and gold banner with the awarded level of the badge in Roman numerals. The badge was worn on the left breast pocket of the recipient.
