Hans Ehlert

Hans Gotthard Ehlert (born January 30, 1947 in Middels ) is a German officer ( Colonel retired) and military historian . He was the head of the Military History Research Office .

Life

Ehlert comes from Lower Saxony. In 1967, after graduating from high school, he joined the telecommunications service of the German Armed Forces . Ehlert attended the Army Officer School II in Hamburg and was one of the " Leutnanten 70 ". From 1974 to 1980 he studied history , political science and international law at the Rheinische Friedrich Wilhelm University in Bonn . In 1981 he was at Gerhard Adelmann at the Faculty with the thesis The economic central authority of the German Empire from 1914 to 1919. The problem of "social economy" in war and peace to Dr. phil. PhD.

From 1981 to 1983 he was used as an officer in the troop service (including company commander ). From 1984 he was a senior historian at the Military History Research Office (MGFA) in Freiburg im Breisgau and Potsdam, where he established Research Area IV (“Military History of the GDR in Alliance”). In 2003/04 he was head of the “Training, Information, Specialized Studies” (AIF) department and deputy head of office and from 2004 to 2010 head of the MGFA. He published several books.

In 2014, the English translation of Der Schlieffenplan received the Arthur Goodzeit Book Award .
