reception

dissertation

The general Swiss military magazine described Neugebauer's dissertation on a single problem of the Second World War ( the establishment of German military control in unoccupied France and in French Northwest Africa ) as a "comprehensive analysis". The Stuttgart historian Eberhard Jäckel also included the work in the historical journal as a "thorough study from the files in all details", but "without [..] significantly changing or expanding the existing knowledge".

Military history textbook

Neugebauer is the publisher of the highly regarded textbook Basic Course in German Military History . This is a newly edited follow-up to the double volume Basics of German Military History and is aimed primarily at officer candidates . The extensive volumes are also used centrally in military history teaching at the Bundeswehr officers' schools.

The textbook from 1993 was already noticed in specialist circles, as a review by the military historian Hans Ehlert (MGFA) in the military journal Europäische Sicherheit shows. From 2006 onwards, the volumes of the basic course, which appeared in two editions, were discussed. a. at H-Soz-Kult (Rüdiger von Dehn), where on the first volume it was stated: “The attraction of the volume [...] is the fact that a little more than five hundred pages of basic data and contexts are reflected here. The claim to design the volume as a lexicon has been consistently fulfilled well. ”And on the portal for political science (Timo Lüth), which made up a“ descriptive description ”without a“ critical dimension ”in the third volume. Reviewers also commented on the entire work in one of the leading specialist magazines, Military History Magazine (Björn Brosius and Heike Christina Mätzing).
