Heinrich Walle

Heinrich Gustav Josef Gottfried Walle (born September 21, 1941 in Limburg ) is a German naval officer ( retired frigate captain ), military historian and author.

Life

As a student he belonged to the Bund New Germany . From 1963 he was a naval officer. In 1979 he was at Michael Salewski at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University of Bonn with a thesis on the influence of meteorological navigation on the development of the German transoceanic sailing ships from 1868 to 1914 to the Dr. phil. PhD. From 1979 he worked in the Military History Research Office (MGFA). In 1994 he retired under the rank of frigate captain. After his retirement he studied Catholic theology.

Since 2001 he has worked as a lecturer for history didactics at the Historical Institute of the University of Cologne . He is deputy editor-in-chief of the popular magazine Military and History and editor of the specialist magazine MarineForum .

Walle has been a member of the German Maritime Institute since 1973 . In 2006 he became chairman of the Historical Shipbuilding Working Group , he is also a member of the scientific advisory board of the German Society for Shipping and Marine History (DGSM) and advisor to the German Navy Federation .

Walle published in the fields of military, naval, and engineering history .
