Heiger Ostertag (born August 30, 1953 in Itzehoe ) is a German officer , historian , high school teacher and writer .

Life

After graduating from high school , Ostertag joined the air force of the German armed forces , where he completed officer and flight training; his last rank was lieutenant colonel .

Ostertag then completed a master's degree at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg with a focus on Scandinavian Studies , German Studies and History . A traineeship followed . In 1989 he was awarded the dissertation Education, Training and Education, sponsored by Hans Fenske . Elite ideal, claim and reality in the officer corps in the German Empire 1871–1918 for Dr. phil. PhD .

In the next few years he worked as a lecturer in history in Munich and as a research assistant at the Military History Research Office (MGFA) in Freiburg im Breisgau .

In 1993 he became a teacher at Waldorf schools . From 1996 he taught at the same time at Heilbronn and Stuttgart grammar schools as well as at Waldorf schools.

Ostertag has been an author since the late 1980s. So far he has published almost 30 novels. The writer is a member of the authors' association Gruppe 48. There he is a juror for 2017 and 2018. In 2011/12 he was a juror for the Friedrich Glauser Prize (crime crime prize).

Heiger Ostertag lives in Berlin- Prenzlauer Berg.
