Jörg Duppler

Jörg Duppler (born November 9, 1944 in Bauschlott ) is a German naval officer ( captain at sea a. D.) and military historian . From 2001 to 2004 he was head of the Military History Research Office .

Life

Duppler joined the German Navy in 1966 as an officer candidate for Crew X / 66 . As a naval officer he was u. a. used as an officer on watch and as a commander on speedboats . He studied history , political science and archeology at the University of Bonn from 1976 to 1983 and was awarded a doctorate in 1983 with Walther Hubatsch at the Faculty of Philosophy with a dissertation on England and the Development of the German Navy from 1848 to 1890. phil. PhD.

Afterwards he was teaching staff officer for military history at the Naval School Mürwik (MSM) in Flensburg - Mürwik . He was also a lecturer in military history and the history of security policy at the command academy of the Bundeswehr (FüAkBw) in Hamburg. From 1992 to 1995 he was a consultant for fundamental matters of military history and museums at the Federal Ministry of Defense (BMVg) in Bonn. From 1995 to 2001 he was head of the "Training, Information, Specialized Studies" (AIF) department and deputy head of the Military History Research Office (MGFA) in Potsdam. He was then head of office until 2004. He was u. a. Co-editor of the magazine military history. Magazine for historical education of the MGFA.

Duppler retired as a sea captain. He is the author and editor of several books on maritime history.

His son Lars Duppler (* 1975) is a jazz pianist and composer.
