Torsten Diedrich

Torsten Diedrich (born December 20, 1956 in East Berlin ) is a German military historian specializing in the history of the GDR and Warsaw Pact. He is the Federal Armed Forces commissioner for museums and collections.

Life

Diedrich studied economics and history at the Humboldt University in Berlin from 1979 to 1984 . After completing his studies, he worked as a research assistant or senior assistant at the Military History Institute of the GDR in Potsdam . In 1989 he was with the dissertation military policy of the SED from 1949 to 1955 to the Dr. phil. PhD.

After reunification, he was taken on as a research assistant at the Military History Research Office (MGFA) in Potsdam, where he was most recently active in the Alliance in Research Area IV, Military History of the GDR. In 1999 he was appointed Scientific Council, 2001 Scientific Senior Council and 2008 Scientific Director. Since 2008 he has been the Federal Armed Forces commissioner for museums and collections.

Diedrich published on the popular uprising of June 17, 1953 , on the history of the barracked people's police , the National People's Army and the Warsaw Pact . He is also the author of the scientific biography of Field Marshal Friedrich Paulus and General of the Second World War [General of the Artillery Walther von Seydlitz, Lieutenant General Vincenz Müller, Major Bernhard Bechler]. Furthermore, he was often active as a consultant for documentaries and feature films for German television as well as for museums and exhibitions.

He is chairman of the Bundeswehr Museum and Collection Association. In 2012 the German-Russian Museum Berlin-Karlshorst appointed him to its Scientific Advisory Board.
