Leith Hill southwest of Dorking in Surrey is the highest point of the Greensand Ridge with 294 m and after Walbury Hill the second highest point in south-east England.

On the mountain, Aethelwulf von Wessex , the father of Alfred the Great , is said to have defeated the Danes in 851 when they were on their raid from Canterbury and London to Winchester .

Leith Hill Tower

Leith Hill Tower

On Leith Hill stands the tower built by Richard Hull from 1765–1766 as Prospect House and known today as Leith Hill Tower. The tower is 19.5 m high and has 2 rooms. The tower was renovated by the National Trust in 1984 .

Leith Hill House

Not far from Leith Hill is the Leith Hill House , where the composer Ralph Vaughan Williams grew up.
