Leithental
The Leithental , also called the valley of the seven mills , is an approximately two kilometer long breakthrough valley in Upper Austria on the border between Peuerbach and Neukirchen am Walde , through which the Leitenbach flows. Due to its scenic beauty and its proximity to the Koaserin nature reserve , it is a popular excursion destination in the region. Until the second half of the 20th century, it had an unusually high density of mills , sawmills and other handicraft businesses.
The valley extends from the Stroißmühle in the west to the Furthnermühle in the east, first mentioned in 1371. The tradition of power generation , which was founded in 1902, is continued after the mills have been closed at seven locations, as is the manufacture of agricultural machinery by the Pühringer company, which emerged from a hammer forge first mentioned in 1649 and is one of the oldest commercial operations in the Grieskirchen district.
