Lemba ( Greek Λέμπα , Turkish Lemba or Çıralı ) is a village on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus , a few kilometers north of Paphos .

Lemba Experimental Village

Lemba was already there in the Copper Age from approx. 3500 to 2500 BC. Inhabited. Edinburgh University digs are freely accessible. You can see the foundations of seven larger round stone buildings. They are similar to those in Chirokitia in eastern Cyprus, but are younger than this. They are currently the only visible traces of settlement from the Copper Age on Cyprus. (Location: 34 ° 48 ′ 47 ″ N, 32 ° 24 ′ 21 ″ E )

On the edge of the excavation field, some of the buildings have been reconstructed in order to learn more about life in the Copper Age through experimental archeology . (Location: 34 ° 48 ′ 48 ″ N, 32 ° 24 ′ 22 ″ E )

Artist village

Lemba is considered an artists' village, as there are avant-garde and sometimes very colorful sculptures in some front gardens. These were mostly made in the Cyprus College of Art in summer courses, in which mainly English-speaking students take part. The college is run by the Cypriot artist Stass Paraskos, who lived in London for a long time. The courses are not primarily aimed at amateur artists, but rather at unconventionally working sculptors and painters.
