Polis Chrysochous , Greek Πόλις Χρυσοχούς , Turkish Poli , is a municipality located by the sea in the Paphos district on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus . The place, often just Polis (the Greek word for city), is located north of the district capital Pafos .
In addition to the actual polis, Latchi, a small port town, is located in the municipality. Both places have long sandy and pebble beaches and are characterized by tourism.
The Akamas peninsula , which is now a nature reserve, is close to the two places. The so-called Baths of Aphrodite are here. According to legend, Aphrodite is said to have waited here for Adonis , while he was killed by the jealous Ares .
Polis has a hospital. In addition, the Roman Catholic Church has a pastoral care office here.
