Akamas ( Greek Ακάμας ) is a peninsula in western Cyprus . Its tip is the westernmost point of Cyprus. The next town is Latchi , part of the Polis Chrysochous parish .

The peninsula probably got the name Akamas from Akamas , son of Theseus . This is said to have landed there after the Trojan War .

Akamas is a nature reserve. Of the 530 plant species found there, 35 are endemic . The endemic butterfly Glaucopsyche Paphos can also be seen on the peninsula. Caretta caretta sea turtles lay their eggs on the remote beach of Lara . Because of the unspoiled nature, Akamas is now a popular tourist destination for hikers.

In the southeast of Akamas, south of Lara Beach, there is the Avakas Gorge , a 3 km long and sometimes only a few meters wide gorge along the Avgas River.

On the peninsula there is the so-called bath of Aphrodite , a small grotto with a freshwater pool. According to legend, Aphrodite and her lover Adonis are said to have enjoyed themselves here. Ares is said to have killed Adonis out of jealousy while Aphrodite was waiting for him in the grotto.
