Lempisaari ( Swedish Lemsjöholm) is a mansion and farm in Naantali .

The Lempisaari estate is on the southwestern edge of the former Askainen community . Lempisaari was an island in the Middle Ages , but has had a land connection to the mainland for several centuries. The area of Lempisaari is about 400 hectares. About 3/4 of the land area is covered with forests and cliffs and about 1/4 with meadow. The mansion is right in the middle of the island on a slope.

In the Middle Ages the island belonged to the village of Lempisten, and the manor on it belonged to the Bishop of Turku . During the Reformation in the 16th century, church property, including Lempisaari, was transferred to the crown. In 1577, the Duke of Juhana gave the island and the property to his daughter Sofia Gyllenhielm , whom he had fathered out of wedlock with Katarina Hansdotter . Sofia lived mainly in Reval with her husband, Pontus De la Gardie , a French-born Swedish warlord , but they maintained the manor as a vacation home.

Sofia's daughter Brita Pontusdotter De la Gardie married the Swedish treasurer Jesper Matsson Krus , with whom she spent part of her life on Lempsaari.

Herman Fleming had the building rebuilt in 1767 as it still looks today. The house is two-story and made of stone. The architect cannot be determined with certainty, but it was probably the Turku city architect at the time, Christian Friedrich Schröder .

In 1823, Lempisaari was bought by Lars Gabriel von Brille , who was an advisor and vice-president of the Senate Finance Department. At the time, he was one of the most influential people in the Grand Duchy of Finland, comparable to the Prime Minister of the current system. The mansion has remained in the vonhaben family ever since. A well-known resident of the house was ornithologist Lars von Bäumenman, who died in 1998 . He studied birds on the island for about six decades. The current owner of the property (as of 2018) is Jan Gunnar von Brille .

In 2009 the Museovirasto ("Finnish National Board of Antiquities") declared Lempisaari to be the architectural heritage of Finland

Lempisaari became part of the Masku community in 2009 due to the joint community assembly. However, in 2011 it was returned to Naantali again.
