Leonard "Len" Jackson (born May 10, 1923 in Stockport ; † May 20, 1968 there ) was an English football player .

Career

Jackson came to Manchester City at the age of 15 and made his first appearance in February 1941 in the replacement competitions held during World War II . In the following years he came to a total of 20 missions at the side of players such as Frank Swift , Jackie Bray and Billy Walsh and was dubbed in August 1943 on the occasion of a game against Liverpool FC next to C. Barclay as a "local discovery".

In January 1945 he received a professional contract, but left the club in September 1945 before regular play began again after he no longer played a role in the first team after Sam Barkas returned . As part of the transfer of Jimmy Constantine , who moved to City from Rochdale AFC , he was transferred to Rochdale as a part-time professional. Full-time mechanic , Jackson came to five missions in the war-related replacement competitions in the 1945/46 season. He made his debut in the Football League Third Division North under coach Ted Goodier at the end of September 1946, Rochdale had only got one point from the first seven games of the season and was last in the table. Jackson then formed the defender pair with Norman Kirkman and the club improved from 22nd to sixth place in the table by the end of the season. Also in the 1947/48 season Jackson was part of the regular team and made 34 league and 3 cup appearances.

In the 1948 season break, there were disagreements with the club officials and with the commitment of Bill Watson as right defender Jackson played no role. In September 1948 he sustained a muscle injury in a reserve game, and from December 1948 Jackson appeared in the Cheshire County League for Northwich Victoria .
