Lennart Kjellberg

Anders Lennart Kjellberg (born September 30, 1857 in Uppsala , † May 7, 1936 ibid) was a Swedish archaeologist .

Life

The son of the psychiatrist Gustaf Kjellberg (1827-1893) studied from 1877 at Uppsala University and received his doctorate in 1889. In 1896 he became an associate professor of classical archeology in Uppsala. He received the title of professor in 1913 and five years later became full professor of classical archeology.

In the summer of 1894 he carried out an archaeological excavation of the Poseidon sanctuary on the island of Kalaureia with Samuel Wide . In the spring of 1902 he and Johannes Boehlau carried out an archaeological excavation on the site of the ancient city of Larissa in Asia Minor. The results of these excavations were presented in the Athenian Mittheilungen (1895) and the Språkvetenskapliga sällskapets i Uppsala förhandlingar (1900-03). In 1932/34 he returned with Johannes Boehlau to the excavation site in Larissa.
