The Leo-Statz-Berufskolleg is an urban vocational college in the Düsseldorf district of Unterbilk . The school is named after Leo Statz . Around 2100 students are taught by 90 teachers at the school.
history
The forerunner of the school was the "Kontorberufs-, Handels- und Höhere Handelsschule", which had existed since 1938 on Friedenstrasse. With 7000 students it was the largest business school in North Rhine-Westphalia when it was divided into three parts by decision of the city council in 1967: into the "Municipal Business School I" - today's Leo Statz Vocational College, the "Municipal Business School II" - now Max Weber Vocational College, and the “Municipal Commercial School III” - today Walter Eucken Vocational College. Since 1977 the branch of the Leo Statz Vocational College has been located at Kirchfeldstrasse 94–96.
Monument protection
The building complex at Friedensstrasse 29 consists of the school building of the former elementary school at Friedensplätze and the gym along with the former municipal bathing establishment on Konkordiastrasse, which were built in 1905 and 1906/1907 under the city planning officer Johannes Radke . The complex has been a listed building since March 31, 2005. In 2010/11 extensive renovation and restoration work as well as insulation was carried out. Finally, the tower hoods were reconstructed, assembled on the ground and put on by crane. The roof was destroyed by bombing during the war and was only temporarily restored during the reconstruction.
Projects
In May 2000, the school conference of the Leo Statz Vocational College decided to set up an environmental management system based on the eco-audit process . This subsequently led to a series of energy-saving measures. In 2009 the school received an award from the city of Düsseldorf as part of the “Ökoprofit” climate protection program.
In 2012, students at the Leo Statz Vocational College commemorated the school's namesake, the Düsseldorf carnivalist and entrepreneur Leo Statz , who was sentenced to death by the Nazis and beheaded for critical words with an exhibition . The exhibition has been on permanent display since then.
In 2014 the vocational college was recognized as a school without racism - school with courage as part of the school project “Diversity of Cultures” and in 2015 as a “School of the Future” as part of the NRW campaign.
Support association
The school's friends' association was founded on November 29, 2006 and entered into the register of associations on May 3, 2007.
