Leo Karl Gerhartz

Leo Karl Gerhartz (born February 19, 1937 in Essen , † October 31, 2016 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German music journalist .

Leo Karl Gerhartz studied music , literature and theater history at the Free University of Berlin , the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and at Italian universities. In 1966 he received his doctorate with Adam Adrio in Berlin with a thesis on Giuseppe Verdi .

After working for a publishing company for two years, he switched to the Hessischer Rundfunk in Frankfurt a. Main. Gerhartz was head of the E-Music programs and from 1988 to 1999 music director of the Hessischer Rundfunk.

During his time at the station, Gerhartz also moderated the program he created, “Music in Cross-Examination”.
