Leo Liepmannssohn (born February 18, 1840 in Landsberg an der Warthe , † May 15, 1915 in Berlin ) was a German music and book antiquarian .

Life

Liepmannssohn came to the A. Asher & Co. bookstore founded by Albert Cohn in Berlin as an apprentice and learned to trade in assortment and second-hand bookshops. Cohn was a particular specialist in bibliophile rarities as well as first editions and manuscripts of musical works. Liepmannssohn's musical talent - he was a good pianist - helped him to qualify.

First Liepmannssohn founded an antiquarian bookshop with Dufour in Paris in 1866, where 37 catalogs were published. From 1874 until 1883 Liepmannssohn was based at Markgrafenstraße 52 in Berlin, but then moved to Charlottenstraße 63 (1883–1893) and Bernburgerstraße 14 (1893–1935). Catalogs 1–238 came out there, as well as 64 auction catalogs. In 1903 the company was sold to Otto Haas , who was responsible for the catalogs from No. 154 onwards.
