Leo Petry

Leo Petry (born July 20, 1948 ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

Petry attended a Catholic elementary school from 1954 to 1959, then a Redemptorist boarding school until 1961 and then a secondary school, where he passed the school leaving examination in 1967. He completed a degree in economics (1967–1971) with a degree in business administration. Subsequently, he was a trainee lawyer and teacher at the commercial training center in Saarlouis until 1980 . He has been teaching at the Saarland University for Technology and Economics since 1990. Petry has been a member of the board of the energy supplier VSE AG since 1992 .

In 1965 Petry joined the SPD. From 1970 to 1974 he was sub-district chairman of the Jusos in the Saarlouis district . Since 1977 he has been chairman of the SPD sub-district Saarlouis. In 1980 Petry was elected to the state parliament of Saarland , to which he belongs for three legislative periods, until he resigned his mandate in 1992 because of his VSE activities. In the run-up to the 1994 state elections, Petry was discussed as Saarland's Minister for Economics and Finance. He is currently the mayor of Gerlfangen (since 1984).

Petry is married and has one child.
