Leo Price

Little Leo Price (* 1935 in Kenner , Louisiana ) is an American rhythm and blues musician and songwriter.

Price is the younger brother of Lloyd Price , with whom he formed his first band. Leo Price chose drums as the instrument. Lloyd recalls: “One day when I was jumbling around on the keys, my little brother Leo brought a cardboard beer crate, sat down next to me and began to hit it with a stick. At the time I didn't know what the role of drummer meant, but Leo had rhythm and taught me what I now know as 'timing'. ”After rehearsing together in the school's music room, the owner of the local club, Morgan's, became aware of the boys and after a while hired her to perform on Friday evening. Even the violent intervention of the father could not stop the 14-year-old young drummer from doing so.

With his world success Lawdy Miss Clawdy , Lloyd left the tranquil Kenner in 1952 and Leo initially devoted himself to songwriting. So he wrote for his brother Ain't It a Shame and recorded a demo tape entitled Wish You Were Here , which was revised by John Marascalco and recorded as Send Me Some Lovin ' by Little Richard . The BMI awarded both songs with a prize. A demo recording of Send Me Some Lovin ' sung by Price first appeared on the 1992 sampler Creole Kings of New Orleans . Another work for Little Richard was Can't Believe You Wanna Leave . In 1958, Leo Price interfered unsuccessfully in a dispute over the publishing rights for Sam Cooke's hit You Send Me between Cooke, its producer Bumps Blackwell and specialty boss Art Rupe , claiming that he originally wrote the song and that Cooke had illegally contributed to it Keen Records recorded. Under his own stage name Little Leo, Price released some singles for Meladee Records , Hull Records and Mascot Records . A total of 21 songs are registered in his name as a songwriter at BMI. In 2011 Little Leo performed at the 10th Ponderosa Stomp, a festival in New Orleans .
